Prospective Students

Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is a community of academic support staff, faculty and representatives from campus partners eager to support academically talented students who are specifically interested in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Programming is designed to help students maximize on available campus resources, gain applicable research experience and address academic challenges on their path to becoming professionals and post-baccalaureate recipients in STEM areas of study. LSAMP is committed to the development of highly competitive STEM students from historically underrepresented minority populations - African-Americans, Hispanics, Americans Indians, Alaskan Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.


Are you interested in:

  • Receiving academic supporting and mentoring through your degree completion at Rutgers University
  • Receiving opportunities for international experience  and/or support for research experiences in a specific field of interest
  • Sharing your research experience and findings at GS-LSAMP Alliance wide conferences and symposia
  • Enhancing your Leadership abilities by helping their peers excel in science, math and engineering
  • Earning stipends for tutoring, leading study groups, mentorship, doing research and community services
  • Participating in specialized careers development programs in the STEM fields
  • Participating in an externship program for practical experience and networking in a STEM field
  • Qualification for the Bridges to the Doctorate program which provides at least two (2) year of financial support at participant universities nationwide

LSAMP Scholars must:

  • Have status as a United States citizen or permanent resident
  • Have good academic standing
  • Have a declared or intended major in a STEM field (click here for NSF approved STEM disciplines)
  • Have a strong desire for research and aspirations for graduate study in a STEM discipline
