Chrystal Spencer Presents at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS)!

Chrystal Spencer

McNair Scholar, Chrystal Spencer, presented at the 2017 Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students in Phoenix, Arizona this past November. She briefly described her experience attending ABRCMS and how it benefitted her growth as a scholar in the passage below:

Attending ABRCMS helped me to solidify my post-graduation and general career goals. It gave me the opportunity to practice talking about my research in a professional setting to audiences of varying backgrounds. Also, I have learned first-hand the value of networking at events of this nature, and how to be more confident in my ability to do so. Most importantly, I have developed a greater sense of self-efficacy as a woman in science. Moreover, being immersed in the scientific atmosphere at ABRCMS also opened my mind to the questions that have yet to be asked— questions with which the scientists of my generation will have to grapple. Taken together, these experiences have contributed to my motivation to continue on the career path that I am currently pursuing.
