Solid GEMS Summer Institute Visits CHOP The SEBS EOF 2017 Solid GEMS Summer Institute scholars visited the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to participate in an experiential learning excursion focused on graduate school and research.  Dr. Paulette McCrae, Academic Programs Officer for the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, and her team planned and executed an interactive information and career exploration discussion, focused on scientific discovery and innovation. Ashley G. Woolfork, Graduate Student at University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL) Ashley is a School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (SEBS) EOF alumnus. She received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Chemistry in 2016. Ashley is now pursuing an analytical Chemistry Ph.D. at University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL). She is in Dr. David Hage Research Group examining the response of a labeled fatty acids on a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system and their binding to the protein Human Serum Albumin (HSA) and Acrylodan Intestinal Fatty Acid Binding Protein (ADIFAB) for use in competitive binding format for measuring unbound free fatty acids. BCP Scholars
Following the path towards graduate school and research, three (3) SEBS EOF students participated in the 2017 BCP at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. BCP activities included working in the lab, research and clinical experience, as well as completion of science coursework. SEBS EOF students Huda Abughannam (Class of 2019), Michael Acevedo (Class of 2018), and Carolayn Munoz (Class of 2019) are all Biological Sciences majors and looking to pursue careers in medicine and medical research.
