The central mission of Rutgers University’s Student Support Services (SSS) program is to increase retention and graduation rates among low-income and/or first-generation college students. Other goals we strive for include recruiting an adequately sized cohort of eligible students each year, maintaining a high persistence rate from year to year, and assisting the majority of our students in achieving good academic standing. Ultimately SSS strives to maximize the benefits of a college education for its students, positioning them to graduate and exit the university with the skills, experience, information and connections they need to be successful.
