On Sunday November 1, 2015, four senior scholars and Mr. Hughes were invited to The Black Men Collective’s annual “United as One” Banquet. The banquet highlighted the interaction and dialogue among African American males’ academic and life issues. This year’s theme focused on college retention, academic success and economic empowerment. Scholars had the opportunity to interact with University faculty, staff and Alumni as they shared their unique college experiences as well as provided techniques to navigate success. Long Island University College Tour
On October 12, 2015 scholars and staff had the opportunity to expore both Seton Hall University and Long Island University- Brooklyn Campus campuses . While at Seton Hall, scholars  to explore various departments and traditions to learn more about the 90+ academic majors and programs. During our campus scavenger hunt, the scholars were fascinated with the university’s prestigious Chapel, the President’s Office and residence, and the  newly renovated $15 Million Recreation Building. Upward Bound scholars had the opportunity to visit Duke University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hall, Emory University, Georgia State University, Spelman College and Morehouse College campuses from Thursday October 8 through Sunday October 11, 2015. Scholars also participated in UNC’s Jersey’s 222nd birthday festivities and met up with UB alumni at Spelman College. UBMS Scholars Busch Campus Excusions with Sheep Brain and Rutgers American Medical Association On Saturday November 14, 2015 Upward Bound Math-Science scholars participated in a series of STEM related activities. UBMS 11th grader scholars participated in a Neuroscience simulation at the Nelson Firestein Lab. The scholars studied neurons in the brain and their functions in human behaviors. The hand-on experience with brain dissection and examination brain neurons models with Graduate Student Kate O’Neil and the Nelson Firestein Lab. Friday November 6, 2015 UB Scholars visited Yale University in New Haven Connecticut. Yale University, formerly known as Collegiate School at New Haven, is the third oldest university in the country and is a part of the Ivy League Schools. Yale boasts in their academic excellence, accepting only 7.1% of applicants every year. The college visit began with a video made by current Yale students outlining the wonder things students can do while at Yale. While visiting Yale UB students took in the beautiful architecture and history of the academic and residential buildings.
